What records your accountant needs from your shop, and how to hand them over
Your accountant needs proper books, not a folder of invoice photos: a chart of accounts, a trial balance that balances, the ledger and GST reports. Keep daily orders, invoices and payments in one system, and download those reports when your accountant asks.
1. Start every sale as an order
Write each sale down as an order first. Every invoice and payment then traces back to something agreed with the customer.
2. Make the invoice from the order
Create the invoice from the order, GST or plain, so the items and amounts match what was agreed. Your accountant can tell you which applies to you.
3. Record every payment against an invoice
Record what was paid against the exact invoice, by UPI or cash, not just "received something from this customer".
4. Record your expenses
Keep your expenses in the same place as your sales, so the books show what came in and what went out.
5. Download the ledger and the GST reports
When your accountant asks, download the ledger and the GST reports. GST working papers are matched to your books, so the figures agree.
6. Let your accountant do the checking and the filing
Your accountant checks the books and files the returns. Tuskit does not file anything for you.
7. Know you can take everything with you
If you ever leave, you can download the full ledger, GST and reports, plus a backup of your customers, orders and payments.
Where Tuskit fits
Tuskit keeps orders, invoices and payments together and builds the books from them: a proper chart of accounts, a trial balance that balances, and a ledger and GST reports you can download any time. Filing the return stays with you and your accountant.
